My favorite box office chart

It’s a truism, no, a tired old joke, that pop singers make terrible movies that nobody wants to see (Purple Rain notwithstanding). Still, in a decade home to such stinkers as Glitter and Gigli, how do you figure which movie was the biggest flop? The one that made the least money at the box office? Or the one that lost the studio the most money? Brandon Gray at our favorite box office site has compiled a pop flop showdown that is tops for entertainment value.

We learn that, really, nobody wants to see Madonna in a movie. Swept Away made less than $600,000 at the box office. BUT since it only cost $10 million to make, it was a positive smash compared to Gigli, which cost $54m and only made $6m. Glitter, on the other hand, made minus $17.7m, and From Justin to Kelly made minus $7m. So J. Lo won this race in two different ways — she grossed the most money at the box office, and also lost the most money for her studio. Way to go, honey!
