I love New York - old friends
UPDATED
The Rickey and Mickey show was revived last week. Hard to say what they first thought of each other when they met 6 years ago, but I think it’s safe to say it wasn’t like at first sight. Grumpus is pretty much the anti-Rickey, and vice-versa, and I think there’s plenty in each person to irritate the other one. I don’t think Rickey necessarily agreed with Grumpus’ political conservatism. And suffice it to say that Rickey’s “House of God, God speaking” phone greeting did not endear him to Grumpus. But since the bro and I had been friends with Rickey since childhood, Grumpus knew that Rick was part of the 96th St. apartment. And I guess Rickey realized that Grumpus was there to stay.
In the end they found common ground. Even though they didn’t cheer for the same team, they were soon having long and involved conversations about comic books, baseball, basketball and the virtues (and vices) of Brett Favre. Not long after that, it became safe to leave them in each other’s company. Shortly after, Grumpus and I became engaged, left New York, married, and then moved to Hong Kong. In our first trip back to New York, we spent much time in the company of Rickey. To my surprise, the two picked up much further along then they left off
I thought it was really sweet.
And whaddayaknow, Grumpus even happily took pictures of me hearting Rickey when we were in Rome.
Oh that Grumpus! He’s really a big softie inside!
