Travels with Grumpus

The further adventures of Mickey and Maya

Maya: Gah, people can be so stupid sometimes!

Mickey: Why? What happened?

Maya: Well I went down to grab my gym bag, and you know how the stairwell is really narrow? There were these two women gabbing with one of the staff members and I had to squeeze myself through and I barely fit. You’d think they’d take that hint and wrap up the conversation since everybody has to pass through there. But no! I went down, took my time, got the bag, used the john, and then went back up, and they were still there! Yapping away! Gah!

Mickey: Sweetie, you sound just like me!

Maya: Well, they’re really stupid.

Mickey: Oh I’ve been there.

Maya: Sweetie, that’s where you live.

That minor interlude notwithstanding, Grumpus and I spent a perfectly pleasant Sunday pursuing two of our favorite activities - eating and shopping. It’s excellent walking-around weather in Hong Kong right now. The heat and humidity of summer are over, and while it’s not quite fall yet, the breeze is cooling and blows often.

Over at our favorite department store, we found the perfect shoes for our Chinese fairy godfather.

After squeezing himself into the frame with his Coke Zero (about which he feels exactly the same way John Scalzi does), Grumpus confronted his evil twin in the dressing room.

Closer to home that evening, we saw a dog named Hungry,

noticed for the first time the cables holding up the neon signs on D’Aguilar street,

and commented on the nomenclature of Cochrane’s on Cochrane Street off Hollywood Road.

According to Mickey, Jack Aubrey was based on Thomas Cochrane. To which I could only say “cool.”
