English signs aren’t quite so loopy here in Hong Kong, but we have our share of interesting translations.  (Those’ll have to wait for another blog post.)  In the meantime, the good folk up at Beijing have apparently decided that funky English signs “cannot stay up just for the amusement of foreigners,” and have unleashed a horde of linguistic monitors to “cleanse its signs of translation nonsense” in preparation for the massive tourist influx accompanying next year’s Olympics. Full article here.

Darn.  So now the “Dongda Hospital for Anus and Intestine Disease Beijing” is the “Hospital of Proctology.”  Something’s lost there.  Good thing this guy’s been documenting the good stuff before it disappears completely.

Thanks to Grumpus for the link.
